While I am not moving extremely far away from home, I (almost shockingly) decided to make a change and move in with my boyfriend and his family. Sure, I’m moving in with another set of parents, but this move holds a lot more promise for my future. (I don’t need any firm plans for my future, but at least now there are more opportunities.)
My home of 21 years is beautiful; I could never take that away from it. The Pocono Mountains grab thousands of tourists each summer alone, and they’re gorgeous enough that people even further away than New York and New Jersey know the name. We have wonderful forests and wildlife that you rarely find in more…developed (for lack of a better word) areas.
What we don’t have is the stuff that is actually important to, like, live. The Poconos are a beautiful getaway, but living here your entire life almost begins to feel like a prison. Most of the jobs around are either retail or resort jobs; this leads to irregular hours, (most of the time) no benefits, and low pay because the companies understand the horrible job climate and know someone will take that low-paying, unsteady job anyway. More dollar stores sprout up each year as I drive to work and back. (I love me some dollar stores, but it is hard to convince me otherwise about how financially lackluster the area can be.) Not to mention the people just look sad as they walk around.
Other parts of Pennsylvania have their own struggles similar to these; I understand that as I begin packing my belongings and bringing them over. But, where I’m moving, there are still more job opportunities due to being closer to the more urban settings. I also live five minutes away from a small town with both chain stores and mom and pops, which gives even more unique potential. (I can already tell you that I have had more job interview calls while applying for new work than I ever had applying for jobs in the Poconos.) Even better, I am right by all of my/our friends and have a supportive family unit while also letting me fall on my ass and make my own mistakes while learning what it is to “adult”.
Since I have been so diligent with packing and figuring out this move over the past few weeks, I am about to head out to the pool and have a much-needed relaxation day. Once my mind clears, then I can figure out how to fit and arrange all of this makeup in a new space!
Though a shroud of stigmas surround them, mental illnesses are probably some of the most difficult disorders to try and deal with. It’s sad when people who don’t understand try to make it sound so easy to handle. On the other end, it’s also a bit exaggerated when people who suffer from disorders like depression and anxiety swear they are unable to at least try to keep it from ruining their life in any way.
Despite what people may think, things really do get better eventually.
I lack the need to lay my whole life out on the table, but I dealt with some tough events in the past up until this point. (Hell, some days the littlest things will still flare me up for a few minutes.) People died, a parent said goodbye (not forever, but had to leave the house), and I wrestled self-loathing the size of a brontosaurus. And I also admit that, up until almost two years, I failed to get myself the sufficient help I needed; it felt easier to sit in bed, mope, and live in ignorance. However, it’s never too late, and I have put in the work necessary ever since on a daily basis, and makeup and fashion were part of that work. People familiar with the beauty world know how liquid lipsticks blew up over the past year or two. Not only is there competition in the mid- to high-range brands, but even drugstore formulas are competing with the best. (This tends to make shopping for one much harder than it needs to be, at times.) So, how do they all measure up to each other?
This week, let’s break it down and take a look at Wet n Wild’s newest launch, their MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick.
Oh, man. I love me some Ratt ‘n’ roll, especially when it’s vanity time. Picking two 80’s songs in a row was totally unintentional, but that music is just the best when I plan on looking sharp and fierce.
RATT is one of those bands I happened to discover on my own when I was about fourteen. “Round and Round” was on one of those old Monsters of Rock compilation CD’s, and I loved their sound ever since. They have such a bluesy, yet edgy sound to them which stands out among the other bands of the decade people tend to think about first.
The whole Reach for the Sky album is probably my favorite album of theirs overall. The music is so memorable and well-written; I think even people not too fond of 80’s metal could at least respect the musicianship on it.
Thanks for checking out today’s track, and I’ll see you on Monday.
Greetings again, my favorite ghouls! Today’s post is going to be all about how I did this colorful, glowing look a few days ago including the products/colors I used as well as the brushes I used for application.
To avoid a long and cluttering post, I have posted each aspect of my face as a separate page. So all you have to do to navigate is click the pages below.
I’m just going to go ahead and say it: for the most part, I hate children. The sounds of them screeching or crying drive me up the wall and into space with discomfort and anxiety. I never plan on being a parent because I can acknowledge that not-so-pretty part of my personality.
Despite all of this, my nephew (Kaine) and niece (Lydia) taught me a valuable lesson the one time I ever tried doing my makeup with them around: I give their mama a ton of credit.
Makeup time can be stressful enough (even moreso when you decide to do winged liner that day). However, I figured I would be a nice auntie and invite the kids to watch some cartoons up in my boyfriend’s room while I got myself ready to go out shopping; I figured it would be a somewhat calm experience bonding with the kids.
I was wrong.
Lydia was pretty calm; all she wanted in life was to watch some Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol on YouTube. Kaine was the handful, as good of a soul as he has. He wanted to help me, which was kind of him, but his idea of “helping” was emptying everything out of my travel bag, trying to open things, and asking what every single thing was and if he could open them. (Even better, the PS4 controller died, so he kept grabbing it when he wasn’t allowed to and bugging me to make YouTube work again.)
Long story short, I messed up my eyeliner horribly and felt so frustrated that I ended up wiping everything off of my face and going out natural. I saw their mom later on and asked her how she ever does her makeup in peace with the kids around. Her answer? “I lock myself in the bathroom. That’s my quiet time.”
I love the kids, so please don’t think I don’t. The experience just gave me a much deeper appreciation for all of you moms out there who do your makeup and do it well. Props to all of you mamas.
Filling in your eyebrows is probably one of the most difficult skills to master when improving your makeup artistry skills, so it’s a given that even the best makeup artists started off with badly drawn/filled in eyebrows in the beginning. NikkieTutorials with her “sperm” shape brows is a shining example that always makes me laugh whilst also reminding me that improvement is always possible.
My eyebrows have never been horrible; they are naturally thick and never necessarily needed any makeup over them. (They still don’t, to be honest). But I wanted to learn how to do eyebrow makeup anyway if I ever pursue some sort of side career as a makeup artist. So I practiced on myself. And the results were…well…
Way too thick.
I filled them in entirely too thick, and this is how it turned out compared to the photo on this post (featuring me singing and looking goofy). Looking at brown blobs on my forehead that I almost can’t differentiate between caterpillars or turds pains me. Wrong color, wrong technique, wrong size…WRONG. Oh man. It could always be so much worse, but it’s still so painful. Product comparison comes right now:
Then: NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil in “05 Dark Brown” basically just smeared over my brows to make them way too thick and flat
Now: NYX Micro Brow Pencil in “Black” paired filled in just right paired with Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel in “Dark Brown” cleaned up either with a makeup wipe or concealer before any other makeup application
What kinds of eyebrow horror stories do you beauty ghouls have to share? Post them in the comments, and let’s have a few giggles together!
